Computer Link Page

This page is a try to provide the interested readers with the most useful links to software for sciences (focussed on optical astronomy).

Thus you may find many links concerning the free operating system: Linux - or more precisely the Linux-based GNU systems. Linux, a free kernel by Linus Torvalds (first release in September 1991), in combination with the GNU system (e.g. C compiler, C libraries, utilities etc.), has become the number one OS concerning scientific needs: stability, usability (for experts), availability (with free distribution ready for download, in respect of supported architectures and devices, ...).

To make this page fast I have left out any image - if you miss some, especially the cute Linux kernel 2.x.x mascot Tux (the penguine named after Torvald's UniX), and have plenty of time to wait for the entire page appearing, look at the StwUB Logo Gallery.

As it is recommended to download this document to use it locally, you may visit the original version of this page at the URL:
