Note: The dates are given in the Julian calendar. The corresponding dates in the Gregorian calendar are 8 Nov. 1656 and 25 Jan. 1742. (The inscription on his tomb reads "Mortuus MDCCXLI", i.e. died 1741. This is also correct, because at that time in England the year started not with January 1, but with March 25.)
