Marriage with Ulrike Schümann in 1966; daughter Liane (1969), and son Rasko (1970). Professorships in Hamburg (since 1971) and Bonn (since 1977). Extended visits of Syracuse (N.Y., 1959), London (1963), Pittsburgh (Pa, 1966), Edmonton (1971), CERN (1972), Bielefeld (1973), Cambridge (GB, 1977), Kyoto (1978), India (83, 85, 87, 97, 00, 02), Boston (1986), Maribor (since 1991, almost yearly), Linz (1999), Taiwan (2002), Canakkale (2006, 2007, 2016), Rio (2008, 2010, 2012), Adana (2009, 2011), Gondar (2015). Moved into astrophysics via cosmology (since 1972), with interests extending successively into planetary physics, geophysics, and biophysics. Principal investigator of Helios Experiment 11 (1969-1979). Director of Erice School on 'Neutron Stars, Active Galactic Nuclei, and Jets' (since 1985). Over 295 publications, among them 9 books; recently: 'Understanding Physics', ed. A.K. Richter (1998), 'Astrophysics, A New Approach', Springer (2005), and 'Physikalische Mythen auf dem Prüfstand', Springer (2014), with Ole Marggraf. Hobbies: Sports and nature.
