Reduction and quality testing of the San Fernando Astrographic Catalogue plates

Carlos Abad, Merida

Complete text (abstract only):

The San Fernando Zone of the Astrographic Catalogue has been reduced, using a specific reduction model, with the Hipparcos Catalogue as reference system. Magnitude and color-dependent terms are included, making use of photometric data from the Hipparcos and Tycho catalogues. Contact copies of some of the original plates were made, and these were measured with the PDS plate scanner of the CIDA observatory in Merida, Venezuela. Comparison of these measurements with the original measurements show that no appreciable emulsion deformation was introduced during the long storage of the original plates, or by the copying process.
