Zusammenfassung
Newton gilt als Symbol für die Absage an eine physikalische Kosmogonie, als führender Vertreter eines statischen Weltbildes. Entgegen der verbreiteten Meinung, daß Newton und seiner Zeit das Entwicklungsdenken fremd war, wird herausgearbeitet: 1. Auch zu Newtons Zeit fanden heftige Auseinandersetzungen um evolutionäre Auffassungen von der Welt statt. 2. Newton selbst hat - trotz gegenteiliger Grundeinstellung - wichtige Beiträge zur Herausarbeitung der Kosmogonie geleistet.
Abstract
Newton is regarded as a crucial figure in turning down the idea of a physical cosmogony and as a leading representative of a static world-view. Contrary to the generally received view that evolutionary thinking was foreign to Newton and his time we will show that: (1) also in Newton's time we can observe violent controversies about an evolutionary view of the world. (2) Notwithstanding his basic reluctance along these lines, he himself contributed considerably towards the development of cosmogony.
