Computer Shopping List
The computer group suggests 2 different
computer types for science applications
e.g. simulations,data reductions and
normal applications e.g. email, www,
TeX. On both computer types Linux Ubuntu
will be installed and was tested.
For these computers also 2 different
TFT monitors are intended.
For special computers contact the computer
group directly. We have some
configurations e.g. for number crunchers
available.
Important:
Prices may change due to the change of the
Dollar/Euro ratio. We'll try to keep the
prices as correct as possible.
Delivery times strongly depend on the
total price of the order. Above 500 Euros
per computer we have to send a complete
form to the university administration who
will contact the companies. This will take
4-6 weeks until we will get the
machines. Single monitors and the Dell
Zino can be delivered within a few
days. But be aware that every piece can
have a delay in delivery which cannot be
forseen in advance!!!
Desktop Computer I (Dell ZinoHD)

This is a typical Web-Email-TeX computer
with a Dual-Core CPU. It contains only one
small hard disk with the OS and a small
data partition. USB,audio, and eSATA
interfaces are available.

typical science computer with Quad-Core CPU.
The first hard disk contains the OS and the
rest is formatted as a scratch partition for
all users similar to /tmp. Additional disks
are used as data disks. Standard USB,
audio, and eSATA interfaces are
available.
