About me:
- 1946 - at an age of a few months I got for the first time interested
in radio science. Due to technical problems the receiver fell on my
head at this time but I decided to take up the studies later on a more
professional basis.
- 1968 - 1977: Student of Physics and Astronomy at Bonn
University
- 1972 - 1974: Diploma Thesis at the Radioastronomisches Institut der
Universität Bonn. (How to correct 21 cm line profiles for stray
radiation from the antenna diagram)
- 1975 - 1978: PhD Thesis at the Max-Planck-Institut
für Radioastronomie, Bonn. (On the variability of observed
21-cm line profiles and their explanation by back scattering.)
- 1978 - 1980: Post-doctoral position at the MPIfR
- 1980 - 1982: Post-doctoral position at the Kapteyn
Laboratorium, Groningen
- 1983 - 1984: SFB 131, Bonn
- 1984 - 1994: System administration, project Deutsches Astro Netz (DAN)
- 1994 back to astronomy.
List of publications
Areas of astronomy that currently interest me include
- Mass distribution in Milky Way and Galaxies and their relation to
the visible mass components - where is the dark matter?
- The large-scale distribution of gas in the Milky Way
and its relation to magnetic fields and cosmic rays.
Hydrostatic modelling of the Galactic halo.
- HVCs and IVCs as probes of a gaseous galactic halo.
Where do HVCs originate from?
What is the interaction between fast moving clouds and the halo gas?
- The gaseous halo as a tracer of the dark matter distribution in the
Milky Way: derivation of the local mass density, gravitational
acceleration, and rotation curve.
- Observational aspects: high sensitivity and high reliability
radioastronomical observations, in particular stray radiation removal.
The Galactic All Sky Survey (GASS) using the Parkes Multi Feed System.
The Effelsberg Bonn HI Survey (EBHIS) with the 7 beam system....
