Fig. 1.
Uncalibrated spectrum taken with the
Calar Alto 2.2 m telescope
and its Cassegrain spectrograph.
The upper spectrum was extracted from the central giant H
II
region (0.2 kpc along the long slit) while the lower one was extracted
outside the H
II regions from the underlying galaxy
(1.7 kpc).
The upper spectrum has the typical BCDG features, the lower shows the
absorbtion lines of an older population
Fig. 2.
I,
V-I color magnitude diagram after correcting for galatic
reddening and a distance of 4.8 Mpc.
For comparison, the RGBs of galactic globular cluster of various metallicity
are shown.
The dashed lines indicates the limits of the
HST PC images
Fig. 3.
Radial density profil of 'young stars' (decreasing points) and 'old stars'
(almost constant, light shadow).
Young stars are those of the blue plume and the red supergiants while old ones
are selected by V-I > 0.7 -2 < MI < -4.
The center of the counts is the center of the giant H II
region
Fig. 4.
Bertelli et al. 1994 isochrones of indicated ages and metallicities which have
a similar distribution in the CMD as the stars observed.
The observed distribution is indicated by the continous line, observed stars
are not shown to avoid confusion
