West Lavant is a hamlet 3.5 km to the NNW of Chichester. Chichester lies in a bend of the Lavant river, West Lavant is west of the river.
Sir John had enclosed the park at West Lavant by 1740, after which he may have lived in the first incarnation of Lavant House (the central section of the present building).
Lavant House was sold after the death of Sussanne Combe.
