Note on Calibration

Jupiter in Jan run
Flux calibration on Jupiter (2400 Jy SCUBA; astro: 2160 Jy - difference not yet explained).
Using scans point 322 and 354 (both show 1350 counts peak flux, maps 324,356 also show 1400,1350 counts for our reference channel 114),
and 'blank' field map 333, which has a minimum rms noise level of 0.9 counts after correlated noise removal, we find a
calibration factor of 2300/1350 = 1.70 Jy/ct using gain 1 (220 mJy/ct for gain 0)
and an rms of 1.5 Jy.
Dividing by a generous sqrt(200 Hz) would yield a sensitivity of 108 mJy s^1/2, although we should probably take at most 80 Hz, which gives 170 mJy s^1/2.

Have a look at scan 333, where i looked at the FFT of channel 150, e.g. With a 0-order baseline removal after skynoise filter, the RMS is 1.27 ct which is distributed 51, 76, 88% below frequency 0.1, 1, 10 Hz, respectively.
After a 5 order removal (signal and FFT shown in images below at scan 333) the low freqency bump is lowered, leading to an rms of 1.14 ct and 28, 62, 76% in the power integral.

Mars in Dec run
Analyzing map 40302 on Dec 25 we find the following numbers for the same channel (114):
peak: 1100 ct (gain 0)
rms: 8.9 ct (gain 0, no correlated noise subtraction)
Mars flux: 430 Jy (astro flux)
calibration factor: 400 mJy/ct (gain 0)
rms: 3.6 Jy (100 Hz sampling)
sensitivity 360 mJy s^1/2.

So after setting the z-focus correctly we have 2 times higher throughput [220 mJy/ct (Jan) vs 400 mJy/ct (Dec)].

Note on Instabilities

Good examples for erratic channel signal behavior are scans 332, 333, 356, 387 ..., some appear even before correlated noise subtraction, some after, such as scan 405, where here we show only 2 of the channels before (black) and after (green) skynoise subtraction (and the skynoise in red):



In this example we note two different behaviors: spikes and jumps. Spikes occur on one end of the wedge, jumps on the opposite side. It is instructive to show the correlation between the channel signals after skynoise removal. In the following plot we have sorted them in card/module vs. distance from the respective channel:



There is a clear trend for the instabilities to correlate spatially. We have looked whether they correlate on on card or module, but the correlation crosses their boundaries and it best explained by a spatial correlation.
